Video Features

The following are video stories and features I put together for various journalism projects. Each subject is an area close to my heart, as I am an advocate of natural spaces being protected for future generations, as well as a lover of sports. I have enjoyed seeing how sports competitions and a common goal can bring people together.

Central Michigan University Lacrosse: Blessing of the Field

When a new sport is brought to a college community there is inevitable excitement, which is not the exception with lacrosse at CMU. With CMU women’s lacrosse there is not only an excitement of a new sport, but also a continuation of an already important relationship with the local Saginaw Chippewa Indian tribe. *I received first place honors from the Michigan Press Association in the 2016 "Multimedia Reporting" category for this piece on Central Michigan University Lacrosse.

Morgan Taylor: Comeback Kid

Overcoming obstacles is hard for anyone, but to be a sophomore in high school and have to overcome a broken back is a lot to endure. Morgan Taylor had to do just that, after she was diagnosed with two fractures in the facet joints of her back. Taylor, a gymnast from the age of two, had to give up one of the biggest parts of her life. Suddenly, she could not do what she had been doing for 20 hours a week for thirteen years; instead she spent months in a back brace and years doing physical therapy to heal from the injury.

The Headlands: International Dark Sky Park

When most people think of Michigan one of the first things that comes to mind is the lakes and the beautiful spots that can be explored. Northern Michigan exemplifies that idea more then any other area of the state. One of the most unique places to visit is The Headlands International Dark Sky Park in Emmet County. The park was designated in 2011 and at the time, became the sixth park in the United States and the ninth in the world to receive the honor.
